The American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) was founded in 1961. The APDA is headquartered in New York, the organization is the largest grassroots organization serving the Parkinson's community.
"APDA has contributed over $30 million to PD research and another $25 million to patient and caregiver support and education".
It also sponsors over 65 Chapters, 62 Information and Referral Centers, and more than 250 affiliated support groups. More than $3 million is allocated each year to maintain these centers which provide invaluable educational material, organize symposiums, and raise much need funds "to ease the burden to find the cure" for People with Parkinson's (PWP).
The APDA also provides several different fellowships, including; research grants, post-doctoral research fellowship, medical student summer fellowships. They also fund 9 Centers for Advanced Research across the country.
