We are so excited about Mississippi participating in the APDA’s annual national fundraising campaign for Parkinson’s research! The 2010 Parkinson’s Forum and 5K Charity Race is scheduled Saturday March 27th. The 5K Run/Race-Walk and Mile Fun Run starts at 8:00 a.m. at the Reservoir YMCA, 6023 Lakeshore Park, Brandon, MS. 39047. The Parkinson’s Forum will be held inside the Reservoir YMCA and starts at 11:00 am. There is no charge to attend the Parkinson’s Forum. However, please RSVP me at 601-638-7484 so that I can plan for food & refreshments. One hundred percent of the total proceeds go to APDA specifically to help underwrite the cost for Parkinson’s research in the hope of finding a cure.
Ways that you can participate in this project:
1) Parkinson’s Forum: Anyone who is interested in learning more about PD may attend the Parkinson’s Forum. The Forum will be held after the race inside the Reservoir YMCA. Lee Voulters, M.D. and Member of the Movement Disorder Society will lead the panel in a “round table” discussion along with neurologists: Ruth Fredericks and Patrick Weldon. Tentatively scheduled are Donald Butts, and John Norton, also neurologists. We are also very pleased to have Kathleen Wentland, SLP, LSVT (Lee Silverman Voice Treatment) as part of the Forum. Kathleen recently attended the National Speech Convention – she will share with us what she learned about respiratory muscle training that applies to PD. Get your questions ready -- this will be a great time to voice any concerns you may have about Parkinson’s disease.
2) 5K Charity Race: The race begins at the Reservoir YMCA and goes out and back on the Causeway. The 5K Run/Race-walk early bird registration is $20 (postmarked by March 19th). Registration after the postmarked date and on race day is $25. The Mile Fun Run is $10 (postmarked by March 19th). Late and race day registration for the Mile Fun Run is $15. You will be receiving information in the mail including the pledge/donation form. On one side of the form is information about the Parkinson’s Forum and 5K Charity Race. On the other side is the pledge and registration form. Using your pledge/donation form, simply ask family and friends to “sponsor” your endeavor. Have them fill in their name, address, etc. and the amount donated -- collect the donations at the time of asking.
